AI-Powered Subcontractor Risk Scoring

How Otto analyzes financial health, performance history, and capacity to generate risk scores for every subcontractor on your bid list.

Choosing the wrong subcontractor is one of the most expensive mistakes in construction. A sub that defaults, underperforms, or goes bankrupt mid-project can cost millions in delays, rework, and legal exposure.

Traditional sub vetting is a manual process: checking references, reviewing financials (when available), and relying on institutional knowledge. It works — until it doesn't. And it doesn't scale when you're evaluating dozens of subs across multiple bid packages.

Otto's subcontractor risk scoring combines multiple data sources: public financial filings, bonding capacity, litigation history, OSHA records, project performance data from your own systems, and industry databases. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for the specific trade and project type.

The output is a risk score from 0–100 for each subcontractor, with a detailed breakdown showing which factors are driving the score up or down. A sub with strong financials but a history of schedule overruns on similar project types will score differently than one with weaker financials but a perfect performance record.

The system also identifies concentration risk: how much of your current backlog is dependent on a single subcontractor, and what your exposure would be if that relationship were disrupted.

This isn't about replacing relationship-based decisions. It's about ensuring those decisions are informed by data that's difficult to aggregate manually.
